Nova Zembla / Salekhard

Bead Journal Project is een (besloten) groep op faceboek waar leden proberen elke maand een werkstuk te maken met kralen (erop, eraan, ervan, geborduurd, gebreid, gehaakt, geweven). Het is leuk als je ook nog iets erbij kunt vertellen, maar dat hoeft niet.

Voor mijn januari werkstukje heb ik Nova Zembla/ Salekhard gemaakt. De afmeting is de grootte van een speelkaart.
Mijn vriendin Robin Atkins uit Amerika heeft mij de eerste kneepjes van het vak geleerd.

Bead Journal Project is a facebook group. The members try to make a project with beads each month.(on it, at it, out of, woven, knitted embroidered, crochet) It is an extra if you can tell something about it, but not necessary.

My January project is Nova Zembla/ Salekhard. The size is like a card.
Robin Atkins, my American friend, taught me the first tricks of the trade.

 

Eerst heb ik het gebied gegoogled en er wat over gelezen. Ik begon met de kaartstof op dun papier te naaien. Toen heb ik de bergen, rivieren en Nova Zembla aangegeven. 

First I looked up information about the area on google. I started with fastening the map cloth on thin paper. Then I beaded the mountains, rivers and Nova Zembla.

Daarna vulde ik de zee in met scherpe kraaltjes die ik haast nooit gebruik, maar die wel goed de ijsschotsen symboliseren en de kou, zeker in deze tijd van het jaar (-20 graden) Ook op het land gebruikte ik de scherpe kraaltjes.

Then I filled in the sea with sharp beads (I seldom use), that symbolize the ice floes and the cold, especially this time of the year (-20 degrees). Also on de land I used the sharp beads.

Salekhard is de plaats (de rode kraal) die claimt de enige stad op de poolcirkel te zijn. Het ligt aan de rivier De Ob, 2436 kilometer van Moskou met 36.000 inwoners. (Brrrrr)

Salekhard (the red bead) claims to be the only dwelling place on the Arctic Circle. It is on the Ob River, 2436 kilometres from Moscow with 36.000 inhabitants. (Brrrrr)

Het grappige is dat het "eindproduct" abstract is geworden en niet zoveel kaart-associaties meer heeft...

The funny thing is, that the "result" hasn't that much to do with maps and is rather abstract...
